Witte kristallijne substantie; oplosbaar in water, waterige oplossing is zuur, onoplosbaar in ethanol, ether en chloroform; ontledingspunt is 245 graden C; specifieke optische rotatie [ ] 20D + 47.6 graden (0.5-2 mg / ml, in H2O); [ ] 25D + 8.5 graden (0.5-2 mg / ml, 6 mol / L HCl).

Gebruikt in biochemisch onderzoek, gebruikt in de geneeskunde als behandeling voor bloedarmoede en ziekten van het cardiovasculaire systeem zoals angina pectoris, aortitis, hartinsufficiëntie, enz. Het kan ook worden gebruikt als adjuvante behandeling voor maagzweren. Gebruikt als farmaceutische grondstoffen en levensmiddelenadditieven
